Getting funky old smell of old boxes?
I bought two pieces of Antique Furniture collector barn. Drawers and old funky smell. I can not put anything in them because everything that comes out of the drawers smell. What can you do that packets of envelopes? Been there, done that.
As someone who buys and sells antiques can help me with this. Take a damp cloth or a microfiber cloth and put some baking soda in it and clean the inside of each box, let dry, then take the clean, crumpled newspaper and fill drawers and close them for a day or more. Open the drawer Remove paper and empty soda ANY remaining. If there is an odor left, repeat but only newspapers and leave the drawers stay closed for a week. Should be odorless. If not, you may have a mold or fungus on the inside drawers. You may take a piece of damp cloth one gallon of water with 1-2 tablespoons (not more than that) and clean the inside of drawers and let dry completely. When I say a little wet, I mean enough water to touch the fabric is still wet with crumpled newspaper. Clean inside and outside the room with a lint-free cloth with a little lemon oil. DO NOT use the drawers inside! You can also try a bit of freshly ground coffee in cups in all the drawers and closed for a week and pour the coffee grounds once completed. This should solve your problems easily! Hope this helps! Good luck!
